Officer Jared MacDonald, a 17-year veteran of the Bourne Police Department, has experienced the support from the V.I.P.O. family firsthand. On February 5, in what can only be described as an ambush, Officer MacDonald was responding to a report of a car on fire at a condo complex when he was shot by the suspect who was waiting for police. Officer MacDonald was shot in the back, in the small space exposed below his bullet-proof vest, fracturing his spine and injuring his kidney and liver. As a result of his injuries, Officer MacDonald is left with little feeling in his right leg and a long road to recovery after spending nearly a month in a rehab hospital. Along with his positive mindset and the support of the V.I.P.O. Organization, Officer MacDonald hopes to make a full recovery soon so he can get back to work protecting his community.
Officer MacDonald grew up in upstate New York, and is also a Coast Guard and Marine Corps Veteran.
