Officer Jill Catherine Kidik is a 13 year veteran of the Hartford CT Police Department.
On May 17, 2018, while responding to a disturbance call in an apartment in downtown Hartford, Officer Kidik was violently attacked, knocked unconscious and repeatedly stabbed in the neck and other areas of her torso by a resident. Officer Kidik was alone on this call and two maintenance workers came to her aide, putting their lives on the line to pull the suspect off of Officer Kidik. Countless members of the Hartford Police Department responded to the building and with the assistance of several emergency response personnel, Officer Kidik arrived to Hartford Hospital with only minutes to spare.
After hours of surgery, Officer Kidik was in stable but critical condition. Unable to breath on her own due to a stab through her trachea, she had a tracheotomy and was on a breathing machine. Officer Kidik’s determination to go home resulted in her recovering enough to be allowed to go home only 9 days later.
Now almost a year later, it is clear that Officer Kidik’s physical impairments from this attack are permanent and she may never return to duty as a Police Officer. She is focused on making the best decisions for a healthy, meaningful future, and now understanding the pains of this process, wants to be involved in making life easier for the next injured officer.
